At this time of end of January, the community of trot racing is thrilled at the prospect of the 89th Prix d’Amérique. The time has also come for track record and here is ours.
My Winner took 20 starts and got 2 wins as well as a great deal of honorable positions, it is to be noted however that he performed better in the first semester. His 2009 earnings amount to € 128,000.
Life earnings on 31/12/2009: € 525,500
Quibble who had not competed since 13 August 2008 went back in competition in May. She needed 5 to 6 starts before she found her pace. And she proved her worth on 15 August in Francheville where she finished first after she darted off in the last bend and nailed the other competitors to the spot. She ended the year beautifully with a superb win in mounted trot at Vincennes on 6 December (Prix Karibea Hotels), followed by a 3rd position again at Vincennes 2 weeks later, by a neck to the winner. Her 2009 record : 18 starts – 2 wins – 14 times 2nd, for a total € 40,000. Her life earnings now amount to € 75,370.
Querner: Jasmin de Flore’s son ran very little – only 9 starts – After winning at Vincennes in December 2008, he started off 2009 in spectacular fashion, recording 2 wins in a row.
In Lisieux first, then at Vincennes again. His trainer then chose to put him to rest – jogging on the beach for several weeks among other things – and to have him nicely go into competition again at the end of September. If the decision to temporarily stop a horse’s career may be questionable, the advantage of it is normally to be easy with the horse. The downside is of course a slow and perhaps difficult period before getting back into competition. It is said that a racehorse generally needs as long a preparation time as was his period at rest in order to fully recuperate his capacities.
This certainly partly explains his recent 2 underachievements. However, patience will be the key word this year as a great programme will fill his 6th year. 2009 record: € 37,000 – Life earnings: € 95,010.
Quito de Lorjac, another Jasmin de Flore’s son, remained in Centre-East part of France. His record of 3 wins and 6 positions allowed him to gather € 34,000. He is still a very young trotter and is not being pushed. He will certainly take his first steps in mounted trot during the year. Life earnings: € 73,560.
We will finish with Silverado. His first 3 races were simply enchanting: 1st – 2nd – 1st at Vincennes, for € 26,000 earnings. What followed was a little disappointing though – the horse suffered from back pain and got cranky. His trainer thought it best to put him to rest for some time. He will of course be back in 2010.
(Another horse whose crossing I elaborated), Pomerol du Mouriez earned € 45,000 over 2009. Life earnings: € 102,500. This trotter, Général du Pommeau’s son, has not been seen on a racetrack since August – it is to be hoped that his health will allow him to take up his career, for he is more than likely to earn a great deal of money, especially in mounted trot.)
